چکیده

Given a coloring of Z+, we call a monochromatic set A = {a1 < a2 < · · · < am} an m-set. The diameter of A is am a1. Given two m-sets A and B, we say that they are non-overlapping if max(A) < min(B) or max(B) < min(A). The original study of non-overlapping m-sets, done by Bialostocki, Erdős, and Lefmann, concerned non-decreasing diameters. We investigate an “intermingling” of certain subset diameters of non-overlapping m-sets. In particular, we show that, for every integer m 2, the minimum integer n(m) such that every 2-coloring of [1, n(m)] admits two m-sets {a1 < a2 < · · · < am} and {b1 < b2 < · · · < bm} with am < b1, such that b1 a1  b2 a2  · · ·  bm am is n(m) = 6m 5. The r-coloring case is also investigated.

Zero-Sum Ascending Waves

A sequence of positive integers a1 ≤ a2 ≤ . . . ≤ an is called an ascending monotone wave of length n, if ai+1−ai ≥ ai−ai−1 for i = 2, . . . , n−1. If ai+1−ai > ai−ai−1 for all i = 2, . . . , n−1 the sequence is called an ascending strong monotone wave of length n. Let Zk denote the cyclic group of order k. If k | n, then we define MW (n,Zk) as the least integer m such that for any coloring f :...

Spatial organization of the pigeon tectorotundal pathway: an interdigitating topographic arrangement.

The retinotectofugal system is the main visual pathway projecting upon the telencephalon in birds and many other nonmammalian vertebrates. The ascending tectal projection arises exclusively from cells located in layer 13 of the optic tectum and is directed bilaterally toward the thalamic nucleus rotundus. Although previous studies provided evidence that different types of tectal layer 13 cells ...

A non-invasive clinical application of wave intensity analysis based on ultrahigh temporal resolution phase-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Wave intensity analysis, traditionally derived from pressure and velocity data, can be formulated using velocity and area. Flow-velocity and area can both be derived from high-resolution phase-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance (PC-CMR). In this study, very high temporal resolution PC-CMR data is processed using an integrated and semi-automatic technique to derive wave intens...

An Algorithm for Decomposing Polynomial System into Normal Ascending Sets

We present an algorithm to decompose a polynomial system into a finite set of normal ascending sets such that the set of the zeros of the polynomial system is the union of the sets of the regular zeros of the normal ascending sets. If the polynomial system is 0-dimensional, the set of the zeros of the polynomials is the union of the sets of the zeros of the normal ascending sets.

Ascending aortic impedance patterns in the kangaroo: their explanation and relation to pressure waveforms.

This study seeks to explain mechanisms responsible for the peculiar ascending aortic pressure waveform and impedance spectral pattern in kangaroos. Pulsatile pressure and blood flow velocity were measured and input impedance calculated in the ascending aorta, descending thoracic aorta, and brachiocephalic artery of 15 rock kangaroos. Pressure and velocity waveforms and impedance spectral patter...
